Notice of rate cut!
At CQSU, we firmly believe in the power of unity and solidarity between university locals. To strengthen this solidarity and broaden our influence across Quebec, we made the bold choice at the 2023 convention to lower our dues rate. This choice was motivated by the following reasons:
1. Involving more locals: by lowering our dues rate, we can encourage the participation of more university locals. This translates into a broader and more diverse representation of the university community across Quebec. The inclusion of more locals strengthens our collective voice and broadens our ability to defend the rights of university workers.
2. Facilitating the inclusion of all locals: by substantially lowering the dues rate from 2.75% to 1.5%, we hope to facilitate the inclusion of locals who may have fewer financial resources. This ensures that even university unions facing severe budget constraints can contribute and benefit from CQSU’s advantages. Financial equity promotes more balanced representation and ensures that your issues are heard.
3. Strengthening solidarity: by reducing less the dues maximum (to $3,000 compared with $3,500 previously), we want to encourage solidarity between local sections. Sections with greater means will thus continue to contribute more to the survival of CQSU, without risking that the associated cost becomes prohibitive for them.
In conclusion, lowering the CQSU dues rate is a key strategy for fostering close unity in the university sector across Quebec. It makes CQSU more accessible to locals who receive lower dues from their members, while promoting stronger solidarity among all locals members of CQSU. This reflects our commitment to fair representation, effective collective action and strong defense of the rights of working people in academia!
