    Frequently Asked Questions

CQSU is the Quebec Council of University Unions. It is a group of directly chartered PSAC-affiliated locals working in the university sector.

CQSU’s mission is to support local union action in Quebec’s university sector by facilitating the harmonization of negotiation strategies, representation, solidarity, autonomy and interaction between locals.

The CQSU is a body of PSAC-Quebec that sits on the Quebec Council. It is made up of directly chartered university locals affiliated to the PSAC.

A local becomes a member by contacting the CQSU executive office, either by filling in the form above or by writing to a member of the office (see Contact us), preferably the Presidency and/or Communications and Mobilization.

It is then required to pay annual dues based on the amount of dues it receives from its members (see Rules and Regulations for precise rates). Dues are used to pay part of the CQSU’s annual congress, during which coordinated negotiations are discussed, as well as the liberations of the Executive Board, who work to mobilize the university sector and make its issues heard at the various political levels.

CQSU enables a local to become part of a network of like-minded university unions. This means that member locals can support each other in negotiations, campaign with greater capacity on common issues, and exchange information on a wider scale.

CQSU has four elected positions at the annual Congress (coordination, secretariat, treasury and communication and mobilization) for the Executive Office (EO). In addition to the elected positions, members can get involved in ad hoc committees set up by the Congress and take part in the various activities organized by CQSU.
